Review of the 2009 Mitsubishi Outlander

2009 Outlander

Introduction
The 2009 Mitsubishi Outlander blends the functionality of an SUV and the power of a V6 engine to deliver agile handling that are most suitable for a vehicle that will 'go anywhere'. The redesigned Outlander, known as a compact crossover utility vehicle, is one of the hottest-selling models in the evolving compact sport utility segment and is appealing for its sporty handling, long warranties, and exclusive rear tailgate design. For 2009, the SE trim level replaces the LS. Loaded with exciting new features and available with four-wheel drive, the Outlander comes in ES, SE, and XLS trims, each with a choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

Exterior Design and Special Features
The new 2009 Outlander has a wider track, designed to make the vehicle more stable. ES and LS models can seat five. XLS seats up to seven and has a 3rd-row bench seat that folds flat into the cargo floor. Unique to the Outlander is a flap-fold rear tailgate, which also serves as a seat or picnic table. The Outlander's interior has a long list of features. Standard equipment on the base ES includes air conditioning, interior air filter; tilt steering wheel; cruise control; cloth upholstery; front bucket seat with height-adjustable driver seat; center console; 2nd-row adjustable split folding rear seat; power mirrors; power windows; power door locks; remote keyless entry; AM/FM/CD/MP3 player; tachometer; trip computer; outside-temperature indicator; variable-intermittent wipers; rear defogger; intermittent rear wiper/washer; automatic-off headlights; a wireless cell phone link; and a navigation system.

Engine
ES and SE versions have a 168-hp 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). XLS has a 220-hp 3.0-liter V6 engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The V6 is no longer offered on the ES or SE. Front-wheel drive is standard, but all models are available with all-wheel drive. The warranty is one of the best in the industry with a 10-year/160,000 km Powertrain Limited Warranty, a 5-year/100,000 km New Vehicle Limited Warranty, and a 5-year/Unlimited km Roadside Assistance.

Safety
The 2009 Mitsubishi Outlander scores high in crash test ratings conducted by the federal government and comes with a wide array of standard safety equipment including an Electronic Stability Program. Safety features include ABS with electronic brake-force distribution; traction control; tire-pressure monitor; daytime running lights; front-seat active head restraints; anti-skid system; curtain side airbags; front side airbags; cruise control; anti-theft security alarm system; child safety locks (rear doors); and an engine-immobilizing security system.
