Review of the 2009 Volkswagen Routan

2009 Routan
Introduction
The all new 2009 Volkswagen Routan, a seven-passenger minivan, combines European sensibilities in design, fit and finish, and handling characteristics with market relevant features and outstanding value. Special features on the Routan include a conversation mirror (an overhead convex mirror) to give the driver a full view of the rear passengers, and touch-screen navigation with a 20MB hard drive. The rear-seat entertainment system boasts dual 9-inch screens, wireless headsets, and a remote control. There are 13 cupholders - nearly two per passenger.
Exterior Design and Special Features
The Routan is instantly recognizable as a member of the Volkswagen family, with its stylized front grille and exterior treatments. The interior enhancements create an environment that is visually pleasing, modern, and meticulously detailed. The high quality materials, beautiful textures and rich luxurious colors are combined with exacting tolerances and superb fit and finish. While pleasing and contemporary, the interior also follows the traditional Volkswagen design philosophy. A hard-drive based music center, MP3 and USB connectivity, SIRIUS® Satellite Radio, a DVD player, and up to two nine-inch roof-mounted flat-screen monitors have been installed.
The front grille, headlamps, and exterior treatments mirror the styling found in the rest of Volkswagen's current line-up. The 7-passenger Volkswagen Routan features captain's chairs in the first two rows. With the three rows of seats in place, storage behind the third row is nearly 33 cubic feet. Behind the second row, 83 cubic feet of storage is available.
Engine
The Routan comes standard with a 3.8L V6, offering 197 hp and 230 lb. ft. of torque when combined with the standard six-speed automatic transmission. A 4.0L V6 is also available rated at 251 hp and 259 lb. ft. of torque. The engine features European tuned suspension and steering optimized for handling and improved driving dynamics.
Safety
The Routan comes standard with necessary safety features. For additional safety and security, all-season traction and stability control are standard across all 2009 Volkswagen Routan models. Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP) is now standard on all 2009 Volkswagens.
